Requesting an advance ruling
Getting a binding decision on classification, origin or valuation before you import.
- Who it is for
- Importers and exporters
- Steps
- 4
- Indicative duration
- Up to 90 days
How it works
Step 1: Frame a single, specific question
One application covers one product and one question. Mixing products or questions delays the ruling.
- Applicant
Step 2: Assemble the technical file
Provide specifications, composition, drawings, photographs and, for origin, the manufacturing process and bill of materials.
- Applicant
Step 3: Submit and respond to queries
Lodge the application in the portal. The rulings unit may request a sample or further information; the clock pauses until you respond.
- Applicant
Step 4: Receive and rely on the ruling
The written ruling states the decision, the reasoning and the validity period. Quote its reference on every declaration it covers.
