Import procedure

Clearing an imported consignment

From manifest arrival to release order: the full import clearance path for a commercial consignment.

Who it is for
Importers and licensed brokers
Steps
6
Indicative duration
Same day to 3 business days depending on the channel

How it works

  1. Step 1: Carrier lodges the manifest

The shipping agent or airline transmits the cargo manifest before arrival. The consignment becomes visible in the portal once the manifest is registered.

    • Carrier or shipping agent
    • Before arrival
  2. Step 2: Lodge the customs declaration

Submit the declaration in the single-window portal, attaching the invoice, packing list, transport document and certificate of origin. The system validates the tariff codes and computes an indicative assessment.

    • Same day
  3. Step 3: Risk assessment and channel routing

Risk rules route the declaration to green (release on payment), yellow (document review) or red (physical inspection). Authorised Economic Operators receive priority treatment.

    • Customs system
    • Minutes
  4. Step 4: Document review or inspection

For yellow, an officer verifies the documents against the declaration. For red, the goods are examined and may be sampled for laboratory analysis.

    • Customs officer
    • Same day to 2 business days

Attend the inspection or appoint a representative; unattended inspections may be delayed.

  5. Step 5: Assessment and payment

The final assessment notice is issued in the portal. Pay duty, VAT and service fees electronically, or draw on a deferred-payment facility if you hold one.

    • Importer or broker
    • Same day
  6. Step 6: Release and exit

The release order is issued and the consignment leaves the customs area. Retain the declaration and assessment for five years — they may be audited after release.
